A Dream in the Sky, Lost Forever: Tragedy Shatters the Joshi Family’s Hopeful New Beginning

London/New Delhi What should have been a moment of long-awaited joy turned into an unspeakable tragedy early this morning, as Air India Flight 171 crashed shortly after takeoff route to London, killing all 212 souls on board. Among them was the Joshi family Pratik, his wife Dr. Komi Vyas, and their three young children who were finally on their way to a new life together after years of longing and separation.

For Pratik Joshi, 38, a devoted father and software engineer, this flight was more than a journey. It was the culmination of a six-year struggle a promise to reunite his family and give them the future he had spent every waking hour building. That promise, lovingly nurtured from afar, dissolved in an instant.

His wife, Dr. Komi Vyas, had just left behind her career as a respected physician in Udaipur, Rajasthan. She had handed in her resignation just days earlier. Her voice had trembled as she told friends, “We’re finally going. We’re finally going to be together.”

Their children aged 10, 7, and just 3 had been counting down the days, their suitcases packed with toys, storybooks, and dreams of snow in London. Just before boarding, the family sent a cheerful selfie from the departure lounge. In it, they’re all smiling unaware that it would become the last image their loved ones would ever receive.

A friend from Udaipur, barely able to speak through tears, said, “They had waited so long, fought so hard. This was supposed to be the beginning of everything.”

But instead of a reunion in London, there was only wreckage. Scattered belongings. Burnt toys. Silence.

As investigators sift through debris for answers suspecting, but not confirming, a technical fault grieving friends have gathered in London, lighting candles outside the family’s flat. In Udaipur, neighbors sit in stunned silence, staring at the Joshi home now frozen in time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences, calling the incident “a heartbreaking tragedy that has left the nation in mourning. ”Rhea Kapoor, a former colleague of Pratik’s, said, “He spoke of his children every day. This wasn’t just a relocation it was his life’s mission. They were so close. So painfully close. ”Now, all that remains is grief. The dream of a family’s new chapter written over years of sacrifice, love, and longing was snatched away in seconds. The hope that once soared at 30,000 feet now lies broken in the charred remains of a flight that never arrived. The sky was meant to carry them home. Instead, it stole everything.
