On April 13, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, along with members of the Police Management Board, visited the Police Hospital in Accra to express gratitude to the hospital's leadership and staff for their outstanding efforts in responding to a sudden surge in patient numbers due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

During the visit, the Medical Director, Dr. Otu Nyarko, who also holds the rank of Commissioner of Police, briefed the delegation on how the hospital had coped with an overwhelming threefold increase in patient visits over the past week. He explained that although the situation created immense strain on staff and resources, swift strategies were implemented to manage the crisis

To keep services running smoothly, all doctors on break—including those on leave or engaged in further studies—were recalled to strengthen the workforce. Thanks to these quick decisions, the hospital managed to maintain care for everyone who came through its doors, without turning away any patients.

Other Police medical facilities, including the recently inaugurated hospital in Kumasi, also experienced a sharp rise in attendance and played a vital role in filling the healthcare gap during the strike.

Impressed by their resilience, the IGP commended the entire medical team for their professionalism and commitment. He encouraged them to keep up their efforts, emphasizing how their work was not only vital to the police service but also to the broader community in times of crisis.

Mr. Yohuno highlighted the importance of expanding medical infrastructure, noting that the opening of the Kumasi Police Hospital was timely and essential. He assured staff that the Police Administration would continue to invest in health services across all its facilities to enhance the quality of care provided

This visit by the Police leadership underscores the critical role played by the Police Hospital during national emergencies and highlights the unwavering dedication of its staff in delivering care when the country needs it most.
